What is the Christmas Bazaar?

The Christmas Bazaar is our main fundraiser. Its origins date back to 1990 when a group of expatriate ladies decided to organize a charity event to give something back to the community they lived in. Since its inception, the IWCB Christmas Bazaar has become the largest and most visible event of the expat and diplomatic community in Slovakia and has raised over 1 MILLION Euros. It is Bratislava’s biggest international fundraiser and a wonderful opportunity for countries to introduce themselves, with their products and national costumes to the Slovak public. For companies, it is an excellent means of promoting their goods, especially since the bazaar is a well-known and highly publicized event covered by all main media.

Who is involved?

The International Women’s Club of Bratislava as the main organizer, international community, foreign embassies and their staff (including most of the ambassadors), local and foreign companies, city of Bratislava and the Slovak Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

What is the size of this event?

In 2015 we had......

Who does what?

All embassies or representations of foreign countries in Slovakia are invited to set up stands to sell their typical national products (food and other goods). They find sponsors for merchandise and donate the proceeds to the IWCB. The IWCB is responsible for the entire organisation of the event before and on the day itself, including preparation of the venue, decoration, tombola, insurance, ticket sales, etc.

What happens with the money raised?

All profit from the Bazaar income is used to support recognized charitable organizations all over Slovakia. The recipients of our financial help are carefully selected and their needs assessed by the club’s Charity Committee and the Board before deciding who will benefit from these funds.
