HANDS ON PROJECT

The Charity Committee is running a new Hands On Project which offers IWCB members the opportunity to take part in regular volunteering sessions with a selection of Slovak charities. At present we have four charities offering opportunities for our members but we are looking to expand the number of charities involved over the coming months so that we are able to offer a wide range of activities for volunteers to get involved in.

If you are interested in volunteering, please contact charity@iwc.sk for a copy of an electronic form which will allow us to gather information about potential volunteers and their areas of interest and enable us to match them to suitable opportunities.

IMPULZ

October 2018 - It was impossible to count the number of smiles from today’s visit with the sweet staff and clients of IMPULZ! We were welcomed by Janka, who gave us a tour of the center for rehabilitation for the developmentally disabled, located in the heart of Petržalka. At IMPULZ, clients have the opportunity to learn life skills such as financial management, health and personal care, communication, cooking, group and community integration, and ethics, in a nurturing setting bolstered by art therapy and social work principles. We were ‘wowed’ by their personal murals, woven mats, intricate candles, vibrant ceramics, and varied paintings. Janka extended her heartfelt thanks as she showed us the kiln and art supplies purchased with the support of IWCB funds. As an added treat, staff and clients taught US how they make their spectacular candles. Thank you, IMPULZ, for such a warm and meaningful experience!

*Many of the items made at IMPULZ are for sale with proceeds put towards funding their organization. For more information on IMPULZ, visit http://www.zpmp-impulz.sk/

SIBÍRKA

March 2018 - Thanks to the efforts of our Charity Committee, we helped usher in Spring at the Sibírka facility for special needs adults and children. We were given a brief tour where we learned of the various therapies offered. In addition to traditional therapies, Sibírka utilizes art therapy, hydrotherapy, canine therapy, and a "work therapy" program. We saw how many elements at Sibírka were the result of projects funded by groups like the IWCB.

Our visit culminated in a splash of colour! Alongside clients and staff, we planted garden boxes with vibrant blooms - and had a marvelous time with some beautiful souls. Our time spent with the folks at Sibírka was truly memorable and we are thankful to them for sharing the day with us.
